La Bouche was a Eurodance duo formed by Frank Farian in Germany in 1994, consisting of Melanie Thornton (May 13, 1967 - November 24, 2001) and Lane McCray. The first lead single, “Be My Lover” was top 10 in fourteen countries, #1 in Germany and #6 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1996. It went on to win the ASCAP award for the “Most Played Song in America”.
Their first album, entitled Sweet Dreams, went five times Platinum and nine times Gold worldwide. The second and final album, S.O.S. also known as A Moment of Love was released in 1998, featuring the single “You Won’t Forget Me”.
In November 2002, one year following Thornton’s death, La Bouche producer Farian prepared a tribute single entitled “In Your Life”. The song was an unreleased B-side from Thornton’s debut album. Farian combined vocals for the track recorded prior to Thornton’s death and had Kayo Shekoni from Le Click provide additional vocals to complete the mix. The single was released worldwide in 2002 and in the US in 2003. It peaked at #6 in the US billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, alongside Justin Timberlake. Kayo Shekoni and Lane McCray did club appearances and performed alongside Coolio and Jennifer Lopez. The record company contracted for the US release, “Logic Records”, closed shortly after the release.
La Bouche continue to tour, but there are no plans for a third album.
